Taurus the Bull
The bull has been a sacred animal since 3000BC. Early Hebrews worshipped a god called El who appeared in the form of a bull. The bull is symbolic for its virility and strength. It was a bull that pulled the chariot of Hittite, the Sun God Samas and also the chariot of the Roman Jupitor, Dolichenus.
In Greek mythology the bull was sacred to Poseidon and Dionysus. The God Zeus took the shape of a bull in order to seduce the mortal Europa.
Mithraic legend states that the bull's blood is the origin of all life and this has lead to many bull sacrifices. An old Roman custom involved cutting the throat of a bull above a board with holes in it. The Roman bull worshipper would stand underneath where it was believed that the blood would rejuvenate the body and soul. This ritual was known as Taurobolium. Thankfully this custom is no longer carried out.
With all these different cultures worshipping the bull, it is not surprising that the bull has become immortalised in the heavens as the constellation Taurus and the second house of the zodiac.
Taurus rules the constellations between 20th April until the 20th May. Taurus is ruled by the planet Venus and is an earth sign.
People born under the sign of Taurus have immense strength and stamina. A Taurean can be cautious and sensible. Taureans long for security but the influence of Venus means that they also appreciate the luxuries of life.
Taureans are very dependable people so they make excellent friends. Taureans use the energy from the Aries to build solidity. People born under the sign of Taurus tend to be plodders and do not like to be rushed. Taureans hide a fear of being judged.
The negative side to a Taurean's character is their possessiveness and jealous nature. Taureans are hoarders and possessive of not only material objects, but of people as well.
It takes a lot to make a Taurean angry and most of the time they can be perceived as being gentle people. However, just like the bull, appearances can be deceptive. Make a Taurean angry and he will charge just like a bull.
The ruling planet of Venus means that Taureans often attract the attentions of the opposite sex. Romance is extremely important to those born under the sign of Taurus the Bull.
Overall, the Taurean is determined and sensitive, stubborn and possessive. A Taurean will make an excellent friend but an equally bad enemy. As the saying goes, Beware of the Bull!
